There is a new term when it comes to online dating, "kittenfishing", and believe me it isn't as cute as it sounds. Thanks Hinge, the dating app, for coining this term. I'm honestly surprised someone hadn't sooner!
Kittenfishing is basically when you make yourself seem way different than you actually are. People who are "kittenfishing" may be using photos that are ten years old, lying about their career, making up an interesting hobby, and so on.
Basically, it's a tamer version of catfishing.
The act of "kittenfishing" is simple. You go online, use outdated/edited photos, lie about your personality traits. That's it! It doesn't even have to be flat-out lies. It can be inflating things about yourself that make you seem different than you actually are.
It's easy to see why people are angry about it!
