Man Convicted of Manslaughter After Disturbing Wasp Nest

A Swiss man has been convicted of manslaughter, after a wasp from a nest he disturbed fatally stung someone allergic to the insects.

The man, who was not named in reports, was trying to remove a wasp's nest from the terrace of a friend's home in Geneva.

The wasps swarmed a couple in a neighboring terrace and stung them both.

The woman was stung in her head and arm and her husband went into anaphylactic shock. He died two days later.

A decision made by the Federal Court of Switzerland said the man should have taken precautionary measures when removing the wasp nest.

The defendant said he didn't suspect anyone would be outside because of the cold weather.

The court ruled negligently and carelessly and that the death of the neighbor could have been prevented.

The defendant was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and bodily injury and given a conditional sentence of 90 days in jail.
