If you've struggled with acne problems like I have, you know how frustrating it can be no matter how old you are. I've tried it all, pills, washes, creams, diets, peels. You name it, I've probably tried it.
Finally, an acne vaccine is in the works! Can you imagine never having to deal with an awful mountain on your face again? I can't, but I have hope.
At the University of California, San Diego a group of scientist are looking to create a vaccine for acne. Developing a vaccine for acne has it's problems because:
"Acne is caused, in part, by P. acnes bacteria that are with you your whole life — and we couldn’t create a vaccine for the bacteria because, in some ways, P. acnes are good for you. But we found an antibody to a toxic protein that P. acnes bacteria secrete on skin — the protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne."
So far, the vaccine has worked on biopsies. The next stop is testing the vaccine on clinical patients, which could take one or two years.
So basically, be patient and hope that a vaccine will be here soon!
