Are you looking for the next place to book a vacation? Well, we've found your next destination.
The dreamy island of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, where you can frolic with rescue dogs on the beach as part of a special program by Potcake Place, a dog rescue. This rescue cares for about 50 to 75 dogs at any given time.
Jane Parker-Rauw founded Potcake Place in 1997 after noticing how many stray puppies were on the island. In 2010, she started puppy socialization walks to help the puppies open up to people. These walks let tourists and locals hangout with puppies for a few hours and day and they work! Not only do you get to have the perk of playing with a dog while on vacation, you also get to help the dog too!
All you need to do is visit the charity, and the adoption staff will make sure you're a good fit for the dog. Then you are given a bag with a bottle of water, a bowl, a toy, treats and pick-up bags. Then you're off to a nearby beach to have fun!
There are of course rules, to keep the dogs safe. The dog can only be out for two hours, and the dogs can not be forced to do anything that may make them uncomfortable. Also, they must be on a leash at all times.
The best part of their story is the success the shelter has had in getting the dogs adopted from locals and tourists!
