Katelyn Ohashi took home an ESPY tonight, but left the crowd with something else to take away from her win. A poet, who has also been very vocal about the toll mental abuse played on her while in her sport due to body-shaming, Ohashi used her poetry to convey the strength she has gained after her collegiate gymnastics routines went viral this year.
Ohashi, who was once an elite gymnast, retired from the elite level and took up collegiate gymnastics at UCLA. She has used her newfound fame to speak about the impact that body-shaming and metal abuse had on her as a young girl in elite gymnastics. Listen to her powerful words:
