When it comes to songs from a soundtrack, I learned that things get a little complicated in terms of "ownership" of the song. Not always, of course... but in the case of "The Greatest Showman," you want to give all the credit to the singer/actress Keala Settle for the incredible "This Is Me," but she won't be up there to accept any awards. She'll perform it at the Oscars, but the award is for the writers/creators.
I learned this, and more about the process of making such a great movie. She told me about the passion that Hugh Jackman put into it, and that even if you want to believe something bad about him- he's a truly incredible man who has helped change her life and outlook on it.
Keala has such a fun spirit and we probably could have talked for eternity and given quite the uplifting podcast. I still think her words and positivity can help anyone out, but we kept it short and sweet for the peeps.
You'll also hear us talk about an incredible video of her performing the song in front of a group of people for the first time. You can see a barrier break down in this moment, and see her connection with Hugh. That video is also below!
