Hoody Reviews 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' In 60 Seconds Or Less

I got to see Venom: Let There Be Carnage a few days early with Erick thanks to Sony Pictures and not going to lie that it might not be worth seeing in theaters if this is going to be your first time back in the theaters!

While the film is a sequel to the original, it feels like it didn't add anything to the characters by the end of the film besides a tease at another villain because everything stays the same without giving away too much.

Here are some of my initial, SPOILER-FREE, thoughts on the film and what stood out to me:

  • There is an end credit scene that could have some cool payoff in the next few years! It's not mind-blowing, but will have you interested in what's to come with Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
  • I wasn't a fan of Shriek throughout the film because she doesn't add that much to the film
  • The movie is short at 90 minutes, but it goes way too fast and you don't have time to really sit with everything going on
  • Venom was supposed to be the comedic beat of the film, but I feel like none of the jokes landed that often.
  • There's some weird editing that if you're paying attention can be confusing towards the finale of the film.
  • I feel like we didn't need Venom 2 and it was mainly there just to set up what happens in the end credit scene.

I'm giving Venom: Let There Be Carnage 6 out of 10 red symbiotes because while the end credit scene was great and all, it doesn't justify seeing 90 minutes of a film that doesn't change to much for the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be in theaters starting on October 1st!
