Hoody Reviews "Dark Phoenix" in 60 Seconds or Less!

I got to see Dark Phoenix early and I think it might be my LEAST favorite X-Men movie. Now I will admit that I saw X-Men: The Last Stand when I was twelve so I had some bias, but this version of the Dark Phoenix storyline felt like it suffered from its many re-shoots!

The movie is less than two hours long, but it felt A LOT longer just because the movie is filled with long dialogue scenes and doesn't have a lot of action. That's not to say that EVERY superhero movie needs to be about the action, but the action scenes in the movie didn't really pay those long dialogue scenes off. Here are some of my initial, SPOILER-FREE, thoughts on the film and what stood out to me:

  • There is NO End-Credits Scene so you can leave once the credits roll
  • The villains in the film seem EERILY similar to villains in Captain Marvel, but I'm not sure because we're given little info on them and even Jessica Chastain's character's name is only mentioned once.
  • The movie needed to work more on its transitions/what it cut from the final versions because a bunch of things that would have been nice to explain didn't get any explanation.
  • Make sure to cover your little one's ears during the final action sequence in the film, because the X-Men decided to go "Rated R"

I'm giving the film 4 out of 10 X-Men symbols, and like I said you might want to pass on this movie unless you're a huge X-Men fan and want to complete the saga! Dark Phoenix is currently in theaters.
