Nathan West of East Of Eli and Supergirl's Chyler Leigh, formerly of Grey's Anatomy, teamed up with Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore City to raise awareness for some real-life superheroes.
Along with Steven Battey, the duo came to Baltimore in October to film a music video for a charity called Singing For Superheros. The charity is a music company that encourages kids to overcome the hardships that come with illness or disability.
The charity was created because of the love of music that was influenced by Battey's deceased mother and father.
In the beginning of 2016, Steven met his Singing for Superheroes co-founder and partner, Alix Petersen. Shortly after meeting they found that they had similar backgrounds, experiences and a passion for making a difference in the lives of children. Alix is well-respected in her field, where she works in health care, and is highly known for her leadership and team building skills. By using music, they work together to empower children with illnesses and disabilities.
The spotlight of East Of Eli's music video is a young girl named Ashley Hackman, with pediatric cancer. A few other familiar faces made an appearance throughout the video. Cameos made throughout the video include Chris Evans, Rob Thomas, Orianthi, and New Found Glory’s Ian Grushka, and Howie Dorough from The Backstreet Boys.
