Toni Morrison, First Black Woman Nobel Prize Winner, Passes Away

According to BBC, Toni Morrison has passed away at the age of 88. Morrison was known best known for her searing and lyrical works about slavery and the history of African Americans. She widely regarded one of the leading lights of US literature and a champion for repressed minorities since she first came to prominence in the early 1970s.

In 1993, she won the ultimate prize for literature: the Nobel Prize and became the first ever black woman to win. Later on in 2012, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her breakthrough literature and academics by President Barack Obama.
