Because They're Funny Comedy Festival

Because They’re Funny is a new comedy festival from the producers of the American Black Film Festival showcasing comedic talent within BIPOC communities. BTF’s mission is to showcase the diversity that exists within the comedy arena and propel a new generation of stand-up comedians to success in the film and television industry.

Curated for industry insiders and casual fans alike, the BTF lineup will feature headline acts, new comic showcases, comedy classes, panels, screenings, networking events and exclusive parties.

The centerpiece of BTF is the “Breakout Comic of the Year” competition, an annual platform to discover and showcase emerging BIPOC standup comedians. The competition has attracted hundreds of submissions from across the country. Six finalists will compete on the festival’s opening night for the $20k grand prize and representation by Innovative Artists talent agency.
