If any NFL franchises were hoping to become the first team with an openly-gay player, they'll have that opportunity when the draft rolls around in May.  NFL prospect MICHAEL SAM, a defensive end from Missouri, came out yesterday.

Sam led the SEC with 11 and a half sacks and 19 tackles for a loss, and he's rated as the 12th best outside pass rusher in the draft.  Experts have been expecting him to get picked, possibly as high as the third round.

The NFL issued a statement yesterday saying, quote, "Michael is a football player.  Any player with ability and determination can succeed in the NFL.  We look forward to welcoming and supporting Michael Sam in 2014."

Sam came out to his Missouri teammates last summer, and obviously, it didn't cause any trouble in the locker room or on the field.  They went 12 and 2, finished with the #5 ranking in the country and won the Cotton Bowl.
